What to do

Catton is situated at the beginning of the East Allen valley, approximately ten miles west of Hexham, tucked down in a sheltered hollow with fields rising up on both sides which lead to heather-covered fells.

Catton is ideal for bird spotting and miles of walking, very popular with horse riders. There are also many footpaths leaving the village centre which provide excellent walks of varying lengths along the river valleys.

The main part of the village comprises a number of old stone cottages clustered round a triangular green. Visitors can be sure of a warm welcome at the last remaining public house, The Crown, which has an excellent reputation for food and drink.
